DE-JA VU RULES OKAY

For the 5th game in 10 the Anvils again missed out on points losing tonight through another single goal defeat, if one throws in the opening goalless draw at Lancing, one could say that 60% of the league games played could have gone our way, on a rather more gloomier note however the same 60% could also be applied to the period of not finding the net.

To the match itself the first quarter hour was fairly quiet with visitors and ex Anvil Ant Storey testing Anvil keeper Seb Bos from a corner, and Seb Saunders from a neat buildup firing well over. For the Anvils an early Ciaran Steers charge was blocked, followed by Matt Gates testing Ringmer keeper Dan Goodchild, on 20 mins Mo Shuga'a then setup Josh Alcock for a shot just narrowly wide, the homesters then had a good spell of pressure but without any positive returns.

After surviving the initial flurry the visitors went near on 25 when a free kick by Jordan Woodley found Hopkinson who cut inside only to see his shot taken by Bos, minutes later the same player had his shot charged down.

An Anvil break through Grant Rigler and Steers set up James Upton to ghost his way through the visitors defence and cause keeper Goodchild to push his shot away for a corner, that was just about it for the remainder of the half with Alcock shooting wide and visitors Saunders firing across the face as the half ended. HT 0-0.

Hopes were high for the second half with the Anvils now kicking down the slope but it was the visitors who took over the running with first a Woodley shot being hacked away, and the same player putting in a cross that was put away for a corner, on 50 Hopkinson again had his shot saved by Bos followed by Woodleys header going over and then a header by Matt Scott into Bos's hands.

For the Anvils defensive lynchpin Charlie Dodd (injured) was replaced by Jacob Wright, on the hour as the homesters battled to keep out the marauding visitors who were beginning to get up a head of steam and looking the more likely to score, and sure enough the inevitable happened on 65 when a right wing cross had Bos diving to his right but not quite able to hold the ball as it slipped to the waiting Hopkinson who joyfully drove home. 0-1 Ringmer

More changes on the Anvil bench with Mark Aldred and Matt Burroughs adding fresh legs for the final push, come 70 and Sam Cane working hard in midfield had a shot beaten out, then Burroughs setting up Aldred with a chance that was missed, but the Anvils continued to push forward and virtually with the clock ticking down a final assault had the ball pinging around the visitors box with defenders and attackers throwing everything into the fray in getting the ball in or out. FT 0-1 Ringmer.
