Match report from todays fixture by Mike May

ANVILS GET NO FAVERS

A spirited last 15 mins by the Anvils after being second best for most of the game, gave the visitors a few anxious moments before taking home the points, the score line might look close but the margin was wider, but credit the homesters although under pressure they never threw in the towel against their bigger and stronger opponents and caused a few scares at the end.

Within the first couple of minutes the dangerous Renford Tenyure had early chances, with first a cross and then a shot which on both occasions Anvil keeper Luke Badioli pushed away, on 13mins Badioli was again called into action punching away a Dave Botterill free kick, it seemed to be all Badioli as on 20 he again had to turn away another Tenyure shot, something had to give and it did on the half hour when 'exocet launcher' Aaron Lacey hurled another into the Anvil box where Botterill was waiting to pounce and nod home. 0-1 Faversham.

The Anvils had little upfront to trouble the visitors, apart from the odd corner and free kick, the nearest to an actual shot came on 30 thro Akwasi Fobi - Edusei and efforts from Fope Coker and a Steve Sargent strike that had giant keeper Simon Overland easily flipping over, the half ended with visitors Luke Harvey being replaced by the veteran Danny Hockton. HT 0-1.

For the second half the visitors slipped into command mode again with a Lacey cross being headed wide by Daniel King, but come 54 Anvils Steve Sargent’s loose pass was intercepted by Hockton who supplied the speedy Tenyure to charge threw the middle and fire past the exposed Badioli. 0-2 Faversham.

On the hour a huge free kick by keeper Overland found Aiden Sherlock but his shot was well over, another free led to Botterill firing over, followed by Tenyure who somehow could only strike the upright with the goal at his mercy.

As does happen a side that has controlled the game can suddenly come undone and this seemed to happen in the last 15mins, when the Anviis found another gear culminating on 80 when from a seemingly innocent ball in the visitors goalmouth was tucked home by the lurking Edusei 1-2 Faversham.

Surely it couldn't happen or could it, as the Anvils sensed the improbable might well happen, but in spite of further raids and odd corners the visitors held firm until the end. FT 1-2 Faversham.

A final note of Anvil concern was Amine Djoumbe who took a tumble near the end and appeared to be in a bad way as both physio's were called for, as well as an ambulance, but after 10 mins Amine was assisted off the field of play if somewhat shaky. He was confirmed OK later on after being assessed by the para-medics.
