ANVILS OPEN DAWES

A much better performance all round tonight and hugely unlucky to concede a goal in the final minutes, but overall much improved.

The Rebels opened proceedings first from a free kick by Brannon O'Neil which was hurriedly hacked clear, followed by Alex Parsons and Geo Hayward combining to give the latter a shot that was knocked away for the first corner of the game. On 15 mins Anvils made their first threat thro Baff Addae feeding John Lansdale whose shot was well over, then came a goal that wasn't flagged offside, but still encouraging, not to be deterred the homesters continued their bright start with another Lansdale free kick turned away by the Rebel keeper Jack Fagan, yet again it was the impressive Lansdale this time causing Fagan to scramble the ball away. Come 25 and it was O'Neil again testing Luke Badiali in the Anvil goal, and again on the half hour another 35yd free kick by O'Neil that was touched over, at this stage it looked like 'Gunfight at the OK Corral' between Lansdale for the Anvils and O'Neil for the Rebels.
On 41 came salvation for the Anvils when from another Anvil charge the ball pinged around the Rebel goalmouth before striking a Rebel arm, next came the usual debate over ruled by the official leaving Addae to supply the finishing touches. HT 1-0 Anvils.

For the second half one awaited the Rebel reply, and we didn't have to wait long before striker Omar Bugiel broke thro his first shot being pushed out by Badiali only as far as Bugiel again who this time made no mistake. 1-1.
With their tails now up the Rebels surged forward in their quest for a further goal with O'Neil wasting another chance, then Parsons causing Badiali to flip over another effort.

Come the hour mark and a combination of Ade Akande and Alex Addai proceeded to open up the Rebel defence only for Fagan to turn away the final shot, it was all Anvils by now as they went all out for that second goal with fullback Akwasi Fobi - Edusei a nonstop performer with his bursts of speed up and down the flank, and Lansdale orchestrating everything in midfield, be it free kicks, corners, to 'exocets' from the touchline, one must not forget all the other players who gave their all thro out the game.

However Dame Fortune was soon to deal the Anvils a dud hand, when with virtually the last kick of the game Rebels Lloyd Dawes rose to nod home past the flailing hands of Badiali into the net. 1-2 Rebels. Even with three added minutes the Anvils still attacked with Lansdale and Ade Akande having their shots turned away in the final seconds with Rebels keeper Jack Fagan making the save of the match on the whistle to deny the Anvilsl. FT 1-2 Rebels.

A real 'kick in the teeth' result for the Anvils tonight as they had fought so hard throughout and in the end got nothing to show for it, after seeing this tonight and the team starting to gel can we still get those vital points!!
