Bank Holiday weekend Part One

CDGFC were expecting a very difficult Bank Holiday weekend due to unavailability of players because of holidays and a rapidly growing injury list. Saturdays performance in general was not too good as the result shows but a turn a round for the Monday encounter against Horsham YMCA proved to be the highlight of the weekend even though the Anvils lost 0-1.

At Eastbourne Utd, Early exchanges were not to promising for the Anvils as Jonno Melia on the right for the homesters was proving to be an early handful with his pace and crossing ability, an early scare came with the same player being bought down outside the box leading to a Wes Tate shot being headed clear by Charlie Dodd, an early inkling of what was to follow.

On 20 mins a long ball from Dan Pollard found Tate who was first to react but headed over, on 23 and the homesters went in front when Melia's cross found striker Paul Rodgers who unmarked prodded home thro a packed box. 1-0 EU.

For the Anvils not much happening upfront with just George Wallis striking wide from a Matt Burroughs cross, and a long range Matt Gates freekick taken by Bourne custodian Adam Sargent as the homesters continued to play the right notes.

On 38 Tate’s freekick central to goal and 25 yds out tore thro the arms of Goldsmith and into goal. 2-0 EB. Finally on 45 a debateable penalty was given to the homesters with yet again that man Tate finding the net to give the homesters a comfortable half time lead. HT 3-0 EU.

For the second half after a few early scares the Anvils reduced the deficit when a corner by Josh Alcock was expertly hooked home by Ciaran Steers, 3-1 EU. Stirred on by this success more attacking options started to occur for the Anvils buy on 67 an incident in the Anvil box resulted in Anvil skipper Blair Cooney being shown a straight red, allowing Tate yet again to do the honours from the penalty spot. 4-1 EU. On 74 another mistake let in Camara, this was then followed by James Taylor on 88 and to round things off a shot by Camara was only half cleared as far as Melia who netted on 90 to make it game set and match for the homesters. FT 7-1. EU
