Before Saturdays fixture we managed to grab a few words with Paul and asked a few questions about various topics

This is what Paul had to say,

What were your thoughts on last season? Did things goes as expected?
The goal last season having been promoted the one before was sustainability and simply ensure we weren't relegated again. However the squad was developing nicely and improving pre season so we set the challenge of a mid table finish and a good cup run - both of which we achieved so without doubt given the resources we have compared to some others were pleased with how we did. The cup final was a disappointment for obvious reasons that we wont mention but we deserved our place to get there beating teams like Haywards Heath and Pagham along the way. League wise our record against the top 6 was great and should give us confidence going into the new season of what we are capable of.

With the disappointment to go out the cup last week, how have the lads reacted this week during training?
Gutted to lose, but being brutally honest as we should be, didn't deserve to win it. We beat ourselves more than anything, with our own decision making or errors. Line drawn, lesson learnt - move on.

With the new season starting on Saturday, what are you looking forward to this year and do you have any aims?
Always look forward to the new season - objective wise I would rather keep in house the goals that have been set out ;-)

With so many of last season squad returning, how are the new lads fitting in?
The new guys a re fitting in well. Sam Packham, Russell Malton, Seb Bos and Nick Sullivan all will be great additions in there own way. What is killing us at the moment is the deluge of injuries, holidays, suspensions we have right now. As of Saturday there were 8 first team players missing and 6 ressies that couldn't help out due to the reasons given. You expect 4-5 but its been unprecedented so we are doing all we can to get the injured back, work with what we have and see if we can bring in any players to cover us.

Are you pleased so many of last seasons squad have returned?
Very pleased. The foundations have been built squad wise, the attitude inside the changing room and atmosphere is superb when you turn up, one of the best I have been involved in and that goes a long way so was important to keep. The only player we lost was Tom Gannon to Pagham, but that was purely due to him now living down that way so made sense for him.

Not only have you added to the playing staff, but also have brought in Jimmy from Oakwood. Was this an area you felt you and James needed additional assistance with? what does jimmy bring to the team?

I think management team wise a third person was needed as it works better. James plays ,so for me I needed another voice/set of eyes on the sidelines to assist me, give opinions and help out also on the training side. He is from Crawley, knows some of the lads already who all spoke highly of him, is motivated and knowledgeable and had been part of the club before back in his playing days so fitted well into what we are doing.

Thanks to Paul for taking them time to talk to us. We are hoping to carry out some more interviews with various people at the club throughout the season, so if you have any questions you would liked ask then please let us know
