NO PEACE FOR THE HAVEN

Anvils after a slight blip, excusable when it includes teams like Shoreham & Haywards Heath, returned to winning ways today after a close encounter with Peacehaven & Telscombe, irrespective of what the score line might suggest.

The visitors made the early running with fullback Jake Legrande and Jack Phillips going close early on, but on 10 minutes it was the Anvils who replied thro a Dan Sullivan first time shot that was well taken by 'haven keeper Laurence Sanded, as both sides struggled to tame the conditions of a swirling wind and a blinding sun.

Come 15 and the Anvils struck the first blow, when a long ball out of defence was flicked on by Sam Cane to Oli Leslie, though the striker was pushed wide he still managed to cross for the advancing Tom Gannon to sweep the ball home and give the Anvils that vital first goal. 1-0 Anvils.

This seemed to spur on the visitors, with first a shot by Connor Wilkin’s straight into keeper Martin Hopkins arms, and later it was Wilkin’s again firing over, back came the Anvils on 35 it was the Anvilian Sullivan again with a corner that centre back James Day nodded just over, this was then followed by Michel Belli just missing out on another cross.

Both sides continued to struggle in the conditions, as half time arrived. HT 1-0 Anvils.

For the second half the Anvils had the advantage of the elements, especially the blinding sun that caused defenders problems with the ball in the air, as the Anvils continued to take advantage pumping high balls into the oppositions half, come 58 this paid off when Leslie who had been going thro one of those patches as all strikers do, was able to race through side step his marker and shoot home. 2-0 Anvils.

Back came the 'haven thro Acer Wake firing a long shot wide, and other efforts thro Joshua Marshall and Wilkins came to no avail as Day and fellow defender Blair Cooney generally nullified all that came before them.

Lee Thomas joined the affray on 68 and virtually straight away the same player was involved in a mix up between defenders and attackers in the 'haven box with the final ball falling to Belli who fired home thus increasing the scoreline. 3-0 Anvils.

Changes on the Anvil bench introducing Brad White, whom settled into the Cooney mold with several charges down the right flank and Andy Goodwin who settled in the back four. With the game drifting toward full time, their was still two more goals in the offing, with Thomas on 90+2 for the Anvils, and Phillips 90+6 min penalty for the 'haven, to settle the match 4-1 in the Anvils favour, and three more valuable points to consolidate that mid table position.

Team: Martin Hopkins, Dan Sullivan (Andy Goodwin), Sonny Barton, James Day, Blair Cooney, Williams Peauroux, Mike Spence, Michael Belli, Sam Cane, Oli Leslie (Brad White), Tom Gannon (Lee Thomas)
