You couldn't believe the controversy and lack of lady luck for the Anvils as they go down with 10 men against St Francis Rangers.

CAN IT GET ANY WORSE?

Them up there must really have it in for us, as today the team reached the lowest point of the season thro accentuating circumstances, not being necessarily outplayed but suffering bad injuries and lady luck and other decisions just keep going against us. Blair Cooney suffering a nasty knee injury that necessitated a hospital visit this just after 18 mins, the tale continued with Ciaran Steers limping off on 38 being replaced by Martin Mutungi who himself came off after an hour with what looked to be a hamstring problem, to add further salt to the wound next came Jeff Mahadoo sent off on 47 for a completely accidental collision, and James Day and Sam Cane being booked and a Penalty given for nothing in the box. The throes of frustration as those dubious decisions raised the temperature on a horrible day thro out with a bitter twirling wind all this played out on a horrible pitch that sloped everyway but always. Even the crowd couldn’t believe it when the St Francis keeper pulled down a player in the box and as last man should of received his marching orders and the decision was given as a free outside the box. CDGFC it is just not your year.

As for the game it was the same old story of misplaced passes, over hit balls loose marking etc, if it hadn't been for Andy Greaves in the Anvil goal the tally could easily have been doubled especially in the second half when the homesters had advantage of the slope and playing against 10 men poured relentlessly forward thro out. An early corner by Rangers James Weston found James Westlake whose effort was turned away by Greaves, striker Westlake then had two efforts on goal both cleared, for the Anvils Jeff Mahadoo put in a cross that just evaded Ciaran Steers, come 18 and the Blair Cooney incident that caused a reshuffle with Grant Rigler taking his place.

On 16 Rangers Luke Leppard setup Pat Rose who cut inside and fired past Greaves. 1-0 Rangers. They continued to run the game and further disaster struck on 22 when Sam Cane contested a high ball with Nat Milroy, which the official interpreted as dangerous with a penalty given and tucked away by Weston 2-0 Rangers. The Anvils rarely saw much of the oppositions goal with just a header from Ryan Taylor and a Lee Thomas long hopeful shot from way out, then came the Mahadoo incident as the half ended and the Anvils down to 10. 2-0 Rangers.

With the slope now in their favour the Rangers upped the ante with a Weston header cleared, followed by a Leppard shot being tipped over by the brilliant Greaves, on the hour after more pressure Greaves again came to the rescue blocking a shot by full back Harry Farmer, then it was keeping Milroy’s drive at bay as the Anvil goal bore a charmed life, as shot after shot was somehow hacked away. For the Anvils just nothing was happening upfront with just a Thomas corner being wasted, tho the same player did actually bring Rangers keeper Rob Gordon to life flipping his shot over.

For 80 mins the Anvils had done well to limit the homesters to just two goals but come 83 a huge melee in the Anvil goal with players from both sides diving in, the resultant ball finished up in the net, credited as an own goal after hitting Sam Cane and being deflected in. The homesters then scented more was in the offing and in spite of Greaves and James Day two further goals were conceded thro Tom Saunders on 86 and Tom Churchyard on 90 to put a bit of a gloss on the Rangers scoreboard, whilst for the Anvils yet another depressing day at the office. FT 5-0 Rangers.
