TOUGHY FOR ANVIL YOUTH

With a Cup Final looming in 48 hrs time, and a satisfactory mid table position reached in their first season back in the Premiership, now was a good time for Anvil youth to take the spotlight, as the Anvils rested seven first team players (tho three did come on later in the second half) as the Robins started to up the ante against a now tiring young Anvil side.

First 10 mins was a bit of 'nip and tuck' as both sides probed for an opening, with Anvils Williams Pearoux and Teddy West combining, with the latters shot being hacked clear, followed by a Marc Pelling freekick being taken by keeper James Broadbent, come 14 and the Anvil pressure finally told, when a long ball down the middle was latched onto by Gianfranco Mici who continued the run toward the box before cheekily lobbing the keeper for the Anvil opener. 1-0 Anvils.

Anvils continued to hold sway with Mici again testing Broadbent, and a freekick from Peauroux straight thro to the keeper, on 28 a corner by West ran straight across the face of goal, but no Anvil player was available to touch home.

The Robins now seemed to be getting into the game, with a free kick straight thro to keeper Martin Hopkins, followed by Liam Benson’s shot being charged down by Anvil centre back Pelling, but they were not to be denied and on the half hour they finally struck, when a free kick just outside the box from Jake Rowehurst was touched home by Michael De'ath to bring the scores level at one a piece 1-1.

The Anvils continued to pressurise and on 40 mins again Mici who hadn't stopped running thro out, finally got his just reward, when yet again after outpacing the Robins defence he was able to fire the ball home and restore the Anvils lead 2-1 Anvils.
Back came the Robins though as slack Anvil marking led to Benson firing home on 45mins. HT: 2-2

The second half, a defining moment of the match, with the Robins really starting to impose themselves on the game, and within minutes they had caused Hopkins to miss a cross, followed by a Benson cross being missed by Rowehurst, with another shot being taken by Hopkins, as the Robins went for broke, and the younger Anvils now starting to feel the heat.

To relieve the pressure the Anvil bench started to warm up, with Lee Thomas, Blair Cooney and Michael Belli being thrown into the fray, all this helped to restore parity and put the Anvils back on course, as Mici continued to wage a one man war with the 'lime greeners'.

But the Robins were not for turning, with more and more chances being created and wasted, keeping the Anvils in the game up until the 80th, when Rowehurst finally converted one of those many chances, to give the Robins the three points. FT 3-2 Robins.
