At a glance the scoreline would suggest a rather one sided match, this against an Eastbourne Town side who only a week previous had put out Ryman League side Chatham Town out of the FA Cup, but it was only the last 20 minutes that the Town finally got on top.

The Town settled first with Jason Taylor finding Andy Greaves with the first freekick of the game, a further cross just after went unheeded, then followed the first corner from Alan Foster again gathered by Greaves. The Anvils went nearest on 10 mins when a Harry Lowe corner was met by a thunderous header from James Day that had keeper Greg Nessling stretching to punch over and from the resulting corner Lee Thomas headed wide. On 22 came the Bourne opener with Callum Sherriff out left putting in a diagonal ball that found Taylor in space to tap home, shortly after on 27 he increased the Town lead when netting from another cross. 0-2 Town.

The Anvils during this period could have considered themselves unfortunate to be behind so early in the match, as at times their approach play was at times easy on the eye, but the main difference between the sides was the more clinical finishing of their opponents.
Efforts from the Anvils came from Dave Houlders corner being headed over by Ben Brooker, and MOM Mike Spence having his shot taken by Nessling, and on 40 Luke Trotter entered the fray with a snap shot at Nessling as the Town defence came under more pressure, but the Town had the last say on 38 when a combination of Taylor and Foster set up Gordon Cuddlinton for the third and final goal of the half. HT 0-3 Eastbourne Town.

With the Anvils now kicking toward the Kop, they were early into their stride with first Thomas driving wide of the post, and another Day freekick being hacked clear, on 50 came the Anvil break thro with the elusive Leslie getting free down the right, then in turn crossing to find first Nessling punching clear only as far as Brooker who drove home.
1-3 Town.

On the hour mark the Anvils were beginning to get on top with first a Leslie header being scrambled clear as the Anvils increased the volume, on 67 came perhaps the defining moment of the match when a long ball from defence found Luke Trotter in space who in turn was wrestled to the ground - penalty, the usual reliable penalty king Brooker then strode up but could only smash the ball against the underside of the bar, rather than the netting beyond, a vital chance missed. Anvil heads may have dropped a bit, but with changes on the bench spirits were raised as they continued to take the game to the Town, but the last 20 mins proved costly for the Anvils with Kenny Pogue, Aaron Capon and Alan Foster adding further salt to the Anvil wounds as the Town eased their way into the next round. FT 1-6 Eastbourne Town.
