The final result didn’t do justice to the Anvils performance against the Brickies as they matched their opponents throughout in terms of possession but the Brickies were more clinical up front and that was the difference between the two sides.

The Anvils fielding no less than 7 players 20 or under for this encounter started with much more determination than had been shown in previous weeks and pegged the Brickies down for long periods during the match.

The Brickies however were first on the scoresheet after just 6 mins when Reiss Gallagher got on the end of a far post cross to put them ahead 0-1 Brickies.

The Anvils rallied and dominated play in midfield but were getting caught on the breaks and Zane Campbell-Rose in the Anvils goal had to pull off a number of saves to keep them at bay. The Anvils continued their pressure and on 16 Wilfred Grimaud carved his way through to hit past Adam Molloy in the Brickies goal 1-1.

Against the run of play two defensive errors from long balls then let in the Brickies on 21 and 27mins when Joe Taylor pounced on both those misjudgements to run through and score 1-3 Brickies.

At this point many would have thought game over but the youngsters gaining more confidence started to pin the brickies back and Tom Bingham cutting in from the right side on 39mins fired past Molloy to put the Anvils back in the game 2-3 Brickies.

For the rest of the half the Anvils dominated and could have drawn level but Molloy made an incredible save to keep out John Lansdale’s rasping shot, which he managed to parry onto the post. HT 2-3 Brickies.

In the second period again the Anvils kept most of the possession early on and indeed had the ball in the net on 60 mins but the Linesman ruled it offside to thwart the Anvils from drawing level. The Anvils brought on Zak Afellous 67 mins, Francis Luke and Narins Lendzo on 78mins and more close chances came and went for the Anvils before again Joe Taylor sealed the victory with his Hat trick and 4th goal for Sittingbourne with breakaway efforts on 71 and 81 mins.

Right on 90 mins Lendso was sent off for the Anvils after an elbow had allegedly been used. FT 2-5 Brickies.
