ANVILS TRIM THE MAGPIES WINGS

Ah! it was just like those days of yore, as the Anvils turned the clock back into 'goalfest' mode, sweeping aside midtable Loxwood at a heaving Haven Centre, 5 goals in a 38 minute spell either side of half time had the locals in dreamland, as the Anvils now strengthened by returning holiday makers Michael Belli and Marc Pelling stiffened the Anvils somewhat porous defence of late, with the latter even having time to get his own name on the score sheet.

Loxwood made the first sortie with Sam Beard and Michael Wood combining to test Anvil keeper Martin Hopkins, just after another Beard freekick was well taken by Hopkins. The Anvils then settled into an early rhythm with Sonny Barton having a shot straight at keeper Sam Smith, midfielder Mike Spence and Dan Sullivan each had their freekicks blocked, on 22 came the Anvil breakthro with a piece of Oli Leslie magic whom out right somehow managed to flick the ball over his shoulder then crossed for the advancing Sullivan to fire past Smith. 1-0 Anvils.

Loxwood kept coming back with Beard again at the heart of it all with a couple of freekicks being cleared by the Anvil defence, on 28 pressure finally told when veteran ex Crawley Town defender Jay Lovett now playing upfront finally found the net after his first shot had been pushed away by Hopkins, all square at one a piece. 1-1

Not to dismayed the Anvils came back strongly with Belli and Spence finding space to push on, and on 37 took the lead again when a long clearence out of defence found Sam Cane in full flight to shoot past keeper Smith. 2-1 Anvils.

Come 42 and further success for the homesters when Spence bustling into the Magpies box was bought down penalty given, taken by the penalty supremo Leslie to slot it past the unfortunate Smith, whom had previously suffered an injury and was finally replaced on 45 by Harrison Hilfiker. as the half ended. HT: 3-1 Anvils.

For the second half visitors Beard now taking most freekicks sent his latest well over, not only the bar but also the hedgerow beyond , followed on the hour by sub Zach Haulkhams effort, it was noticeable that the visitors were having more of the ball, as the Anvils struggled to gain ascendancy again after the break. But come 50 it was 'normal service' again, when Josh Brown the young tigerish midfielder whom at times refused to yield the ball to the opposition, then set up Leslie for his second and the Anvils fourth. 4-1 Anvils.

James Day who with Pelling had formed a solid central barrier thro out then had his header just clear the bar, come the hour and Pelling himself got on the scoresheet after heading home a Sullivan corner 5-1 Anvils.

On the hour mark 'bench movement' with Pelling and Cane being replaced by Kieran Greig and Ben Brooker, and on 80 Leslie being replaced by Andy Goodwin. The last of the action in terms of goals being saved for Loxwood, thro Rhyad Ramsey whom out left surprised not only himself but the Anvil defence, when seeing his long distance lob/cross sail straight into the Anvil net, to rather spoil what had gone before for the Anvils. FT 5-2 Anvils.
