ALL SQUARE AT THE CASTLE

A somewhat disappointing outcome for the Anvils, the first half especially when despite having the majority of the play they still found themselves two goals adrift coming up to halftime, although a last gasp Oli Leslie goal gave one hope for the second half.

An early Mullet shot from Rory Biggs set the game in motion, but the Anvils were quick to reply thro an Oli Leslie charge thro the middle before overrunning the ball, fullback Sonny Barton then had a run and shot straight at keeper James Fernandes, on 10 mins it was Kieran Greig’s turn but to no avail, in spite of the early running the Anvils were to be shocked on 24 when flankman Rory Biggs got free to pick his spot and drive home the homesters opener. 1-0 Mullets.

The Anvils kept pressing forward and on 28 a corner from Harry Lowe had James Day’s header disallowed thro an infringement in the box, it was virtually all one way traffic, and by profligate finishing they should really have been out of sight, but come 35 they were made to pay even more, when from what looked to be a fair shoulder to shoulder in the Anvil box a penalty was given, this being tucked easily away by Scott Tipper 2-0 Mullets.

Final minutes saw a Michael Belli header being flicked onto and over the bar by Fernandes, before Greig in the dying seconds produced a cross that found Leslie in space to open the long awaited Anvil account. HT 2-1 Arundel.

Anvil hopes were high with that last gasp goal, and immediately went for the jugular, with a Greig cross headed wide by Belli, followed by a Thomas shot that screwed wide of the far post, Leslie then set Greig free to fire straight at the keeper.

Tho on the backfoot the Mullets were not short of hitting the Anvils on the counter with flankmen Asa Nicholson and Nathan Da Costa at times showing a clean pair of heels when going forward, plus the experienced Tipper directing operations in midfield for the Mullets.

Just before the hour mark, 58 to be precise, another driving Anvil run saw Leslie get loose to set up Lee Thomas to smash the ball home for that much sought after equaliser 2-2.

How things can change as Thomas found out on 80, with himself and the Mullet fullback both getting tangled up in going for the ball, with the official then showing a red card to Thomas.

With both sides now going for the winner, temperatures and cards started to rise, with the Anvils suffering the most, come 65 it was all change on the Anvil bench with Leslie and Josh Brown being replaced by strikers Kerran Boylan and Sam Cane as the Anvils went for broke, but for all the added huff and puff the score remained locked at two a piece FT 2-2.

Team: Andy Greaves, Sonny Barton, Harry Lowe, Mike Spence, Marc Pelling, James Day, Keiran Greig, Michael Belli (Andy Goodwin), Oli Leslie (Kerran Boylan), Josh Brown (Sam Cane), Lee Thomas.
