WHO NEEDS NEIGHBOURS

A typical end of season match with nothing really to play for as the hosts now settled in 7th position after tonights result, and ourselves as we all know promoted, a scenario therefore of putting aside bragging rights, but of blooding for the future which the Anvils took full advantage of with an array of Under 18's/21's playing & coming on, to mix it with their bigger brothers.

With several ex Anvils in the Lingers team, this as we know can add that extra spice to the proceedings, but it was a non Anvil who caught the eye in the first half namely the goal scoring striker Kerran Boylan who weighed in with a brace which included a penalty, hard to see the incident when ones viewpoint was somewhat curtailed by the dugouts.

For the Anvils Oli Leslie had one of those days when his fancy weaves and patterns cut no ice with the Lingers defence, whilst Sam Cane working hard as usual was eventually rewarded in the 80th minute, whilst youngsters Tom Gannon and Donavanne Paisley battled away gamely in midfield as the half ended with the score 2-0 in the Lingers favour.

For the second half the homesters faced their favourite Godstone Road end, where their supporters were gathered and in full voice, but the Anvils now having to run down the slope had to adjust that final pass before running out of space, chances came and went without any end result, whilst at the other end the Lingers always looked dangerous and further goals from Declan Smith and the busy Matt Burroughs put the homesters four goals to the good, even missing a penalty along the way, but the Anvils with more youngsters thrown into the fray eventually pulled a goal back thro Cane, ample reward for all his hard work he puts into every game.

That was to be it as the Lingers no doubt happy in nailing the bragging rights, and no doubt supporters glad to get back into the warmth of the club house, whilst both clubs contemplated the shadow of Haywards Heath looming in the background! Final Score 4-1 Lingers.
