ANVILS MAKE HAY

On a day when the weather turned for the worse and the rain arrived to dump gallons of water on the pitch many thought the game would be in doubt, but despite the rain throughout the pitch held up well. The bad weather though was enough to deter many from attending a good entertaining match in which despite the Anvils dominance Saltdean worked hard althrough and never gave up. Well done to all the supporters that did venture out.

Anvils after the rather unfair scoreline from last Saturday, took advantage of a gallant but rather overun Saltdean side, to take advantage and convert those chances that their neat approach play had been crying out for to be converted.

The Anvils soon slipped into attack mode with first Oli Leslie breaking thro to score with just 2 mins on the clock, 1-0 Anvils.
On 15 Luke Trotter found Leslie but his shot was charged down, come 18 and it was Sonny Barton on a charge that found Leslie but the striker was to be denied again.

The Salts had a freekick on 23 taken by Jordan Peskett that flew high and wide, but really as an attacking force they didn't pose much of a problem thro out, as the Anvils tightened the screw further on 30, with Sam Cane exploiting a gap to notch the Anvil second. 2-0 Anvils.

Minutes after came another chance for Leslie whose shot seemed destined to find the net only to be denied once again thro desperate defending, come 37 and Mike Spence pushed thro but he could only fire wide, come 40 and the third goal with Sonny Barton out left hoisting a shot that just drifted under the bar to give the homesters a three goal cushion at half time. HT 3-0 Anvils.

Come the second half with the Anvils kicking toward the Kop, home support waited expectantly, and they were not to be denied as the Anvils went for gold, with a corner by Harry Lowe being beaten out, then Leslies shot being turned away, on 52 Cane's hard work was rewarded with number four, minutes later the dangerous Luke Trotters got on the score sheet with a shot that may have come off a defender as it entered the net. 5-0 Anvils.

Saltdean at this stage were chasing shadows in trying to keep the ravenous Anvils at bay, and were permanently stuck in their own half, as the goals continued to flow with a Cane header on 70 followed minutes later by Trotter heading home a corner to make it 7-0 Anvils, finally on 90 Cane supplied the coup de grace with the final goal to end a somewhat hefty scoreline, just a pity that more home support were not present. FT 8-0 Anvils.
