A good performance for the new looking squad against Montpelier fc (formerly Patcham fc).

The new looking u16 team for the upcoming season had there first and only friendly today at The Haven. We tried to invite up to 6 local teams to challenge us to a game but had no takers.
We had a call on Thursday from a team called Montpelier Fc asking for a game, we accepted and managed to get 12 players out for sat 29th.

Montpelier Fc are the reigning Sussex Sunday Div 1 champions and play 2 leagues above our team, they are an established squad who have been together for years hence there success.

We as a new looking squad have not played together before and only had 40 minutes at training to play a new formation, and work on new corner set pieces.
The game started very strongly solid tackles and some good 2 touch 3 touch football, we kept our shape very well and created a couple of good chances to take the lead, before Montpelier scored.
The boys did not let there heads drop and kept playing possession football which was a shock I think to the Champions who might of thought we would be an easy team to play against we were a good match for the Division 1 Champions.

Half -time 0-1

The second half started slowly and Montpelier scored 2 more goals to make 0-3.
The boys were becoming very tired but still creating chances but failing to score which still gave the team belief of winning. Montpelier score another on the break against the run of play, score 0-4.
We had a drinks break 15 mins from the end and after a chat and a couple of substitutions we started again on the front foot and got a well deserved goal from new signing Josh Aston a good finish.
The boys got some reserve energy from somewhere and created more chances but no goals, we got a corner near the end and from a routine we practiced, we executed a good goal from new signing Ben Martin volleying into roof of the net.
This was to late in the game as the final whistle blew and the final score was lost 2-4.
We had more goal scoring chances and should have beaten the Champions, so a very very good performance.
Well done to all the boys.
