It looked plain sailing for the Anvils when going in front after just 3 mins with Kieran Greig converting a right wing cross, just after followed a Josh Alcock shot from 40 yds which was tipped over by keeper Matt Cruttwell, followed by several corners and free kicks. Harry Lowe filling in as an emergency fullback for the day then combined with Greig in forcing Cruttwell into pawing his shot away. 1-0 Anvils
But the Common were far from out of the game and came back at The Anvils with a double strike, first Sam Ellis beating the offside trap and running fully 30 yds before planting it past Seb Bos. Russell Eldridge then also springing the trap in scoring number two. 1-2 Common.
Anvils had to reorganise as the Common continued to pose problems. On 30 Johan de Meyer came on for the injured Alcock. On 32 it was Ben Brooker trying out a bicycle kick that just cleared the far post, come 34 and de Meyer hit a great strike from distance and rifled home to restore parity at two goals a piece. 2-2.
Little Common were still looking dangerous going forward, with proven goal scorers Lewis Hole and Wes Tate needing to be marked tightly, but it was to be the Anvils to finally get on top, when the Kieran Greig cutting in from the left, then found a gap to drill home the third for the homesters to lead 3-2 at the break. HT 3-2 Anvils.
With the Anvils now attacking the Kop end, hopes were high for Anvil supporters, but on 49 mins the dangerous Lewis Hole restored parity once again at three goals each, now it was really 'game on'. 3-3
The Anvils now suitably roused then pushed forward in numbers with Russell Malton having a burst down the flank finishing with a shot that had Cruttwell taking at the second attempt, another chance came with Dan Sullivan and Sam Cane combining and then setting free Malton whose fierce shot was wide, but come 73 and MOM Greig took on a dazzling run to outpace the Common defence and his finish had Cruttwell well beaten 4-3 Anvils.
The last 15 was 'nail biting' with both sides creating chances but unable to convert. Little Common raised the ante for the last 5 mins pushing everyone forward including the keeper to try and force an equaliser and virtually encamped in the Anvil half, but the Anvils were not for turning and had Little Common scampering back with several breaks of their own and with the Anvils playing keep ball finally the Referee blew for time FT 4-3 Anvils
