The Lions were first to settle, with an early Andy Chick corner being nudged wide by Scott Murfin, another free kick had Anvils Russell Malton heading clear, as the Lions continued to push high up the pitch, striker Murfin continued to be at the fore, putting a diagonal ball from Geo Bingham just wide again.
The Anvils always looked dangerous going forward and on 14 they went ahead when the elusive Nick Sullivan slipped his marker, and broke upfield to slot the ball past the exposed keeper Luke Terry to open his and the homesters account. 1-0 Anvils.
Then a Dan Sullivan corner found Oli Leslie who in turn slipped the ball to Williams Peauroux who could only find Terry, come 27 and it was Anvil time again, when Spence broke from midfield to fire a ferocious shot that left Terry stranded as it whistled into the net. 2-0 Anvils.
After this further setback the Lions roared back with Murfin breaking clear to force Anvil keeper Seb Bos to make a double save, free kicks and corners now followed, but generally the Anvil defence held firm with heads and bodies to the fore.
Young player Festus Lori out left continued to stretch the Lions rear guard and on 34 cut in to fire a great effort from 30yds that just cleared the bar, unfortunately a possible 'pulled hamstring' curtailed his progress, being replaced by Lee Thomas, as the half finished with another Dan Sullivan corner being dropped by Terry but hacked away. HT 2-0 Anvils.
The first 10 mins of the Second Half found the Lions grabbing the game by the 'scruff' with a Lloyd Rowlett corner being scrambled away after striking the upright, plus a ross that somehow flew across the face of goal without being touched, but they were not to be denied, and on 55 Seb Bos was adjudged to have fouled just inside the box when making a save and Scott Murfin tucked home to reduce the Lions deficit. 2-1 Anvils and game on!
The Anvils however started to raise their game, with another Dan Sullivan corner being hacked clear, on 60 it was Thomas planting a Leslie cross straight into Terry's arms. Come 72 a Nick Sullivan mazy dribble led to keeper Terry only pushing the ball out to Leslie who tucked home the rebound. 3-1 Anvils.
Minutes later it was four when another fierce shot cannoned off a Lion defender into the net.
4-1 Anvils
To finalise proceedings Kieran Greig then applied the 'coup de grace' after skipping past a now dejected Lions backline and superbly slipping the ball past Terry and notching number five.
FT 5-1 Anvils.
