Swan undone by Anvils

A sunny afternoon, an above average crowd gathered expectantly to watch this top of the table clash as 2nd place met 3rd .

As it turned out the first half was almost completely dominated by the Anvils, first warning shot of the game thro Ben Brooker on 6 minutes putting his first shot of the afternoon past the post, just after corners and a freekick from Hass Shurmahi went unharmed, on 13 Dave Houlders pass to Mike Spence had the keeper turn the midfielders shot away for a corner, followed by Lee Thomas with an effort on goal which went wide.

The Swans tho on the backfoot had a few sorties of their own, mainly through their raiding right back, but once Luke Trotter started to track back his potency decreased, the odd shot from their main striker was about it, as the Anvils returned to dominance with Brooker and Trotter combining for the latter to fire wide, on 29 however a corner taken by Hass Shurmahi found Luke Trotter rising to the occasion to nod home the Anvils opener. 0-1 Anvils

By the half hour mark the Anvils were in cruise control, passing the ball around well, the midfield linking up well with the front men and the defence looking solid, with centre backs James Day and Steve Dixon winning everything in the air, and fullbacks Blair Cooney and Shurmahi not adverse to the odd raid down the flanks, and of course keeper Andy Greaves always there to clear up at the back.
Luke Trotter then had what looked a perfectly good goal disallowed, having outmuscled the Storrington centre back before executing a deft lob over Garry Elliot in the Swans goal, only for the ref to blow up for a supposed foul on the home sides defender in the run.
On 39 came the deserved second goal with some neat interpassing finding Brooker in space inside the box and who wasted no time in hitting home the Anvil second as halftime approached. HT 0-2 Anvils.

No doubt perhaps the odd teacup may have been thrown around the Swans dressing room, as they came out with more intent, but as stated the Anvils were intent on not only keeping their lead, but also keeping a clean sheet. Despite the Swans higher energy levels they were leaving themselves open at the back for the counter and which the Anvils started to take advantage of, but with no further addition to the Anvil score card. In the last 10 mins, twice the Anvils had chances with a one on one situation with the Swans keeper, with the latter coming out on top on both occasions. FT 0-2 Anvils.
