Anvils tireless display quietens the Bears Roar.

ANVILS SILENCE THE BEARS ROAR

A welcome return to form last night, saw the Anvils turn on the style in front of an appreciative home crowd, and with players returning from holidays, knocks etc, the momentum from last season seems to be on the charge once again.

The Bears made the first inroads with a corner by Martin Flack being driven wide by Dan Attwater, followed by Alex Parsons strong run being halted by the offside flag.

Anvils were looking brisk with a Lee Thomas corner being headed over by Blair Cooney, come 9 mins and a strong Russell Malton run found Oli Leslie who's thro ball to Nick Sullivan finished just wide of the upright, Sullivan again went near on 12 but keeper Connor Evento was equal to the attempt, by now the Anvils were looking good all round in shutting out any possible dangers. On 20 a Malton charge and cross was taken by Evento.

It was all Anvil at this point, and on 25 the pacey Josh Martin got loose down the left flank, exchanging passes with Thomas who in turn fed Leslie, who just missed the target, but come 27 and from another build the ball found Thomas who cut inside and finished with a powerful shot inside the far post. 1-0 Anvils.

The Bears had to try and raise their game, and an attack thro Parsons and Piers Mcdermott was then stopped by Martin, whose speed was stopping many attacks coming to fruition down the Bears flank, come 35 and a hopeful shot from Shaun Findley was gathered by Bos, as the Anvils generally were coping well with anything Bear like.

To rub more salt into the Bears skin, and the clock showing 40 a free kick was awarded to the Anvils just outside the box after a foul on Mike Spence, this being brilliantly taken by Williams Peauroux leaving keeper Evento stranded and the Anvils two goals to the good. HT 2-0 Anvils.

Come the second half and a revitalised Heath appeared, no doubt after words were spoken at the break, with fullback Chris Copestake trying a speculative lob just over, on 51 link up play between Godfrey and Tim Martin had the latter firing yet again well over, on 55 keeping up the momentum a corner by Devon Fender was headed wide by Attwater, three corners then followed without causing problems to the Anvils, as the revamped Anvil back line were coping well with this pressure, another break had keeper Bos saving well from Attwater again, more was to come for the active Bos, this time diving to save a free kick from just outside the box.

After all this activity, with the Bears perhaps now spent, the Anvils started to come back at them with first a change on the bench, with Leslie being replaced by Dan Sullivan, on 66 it was the industrious Michael Belli firing over, on 80 it was Kieran Greig replacing Spence as the Anvils continued to dictate the game, with further elation for the home support coming with Greig supplying the 'coup de grace' on 90 with an exquisite lob into the far corner of the Bears net.
FT 3-0 Anvils.
