on 15 the Anvils had a ‘let off’ when Lions Lloyd Rowlatt struck the bar, on 18 the abrasive Dan Simmonds burst thro clattering Anvil keeper Lorcan Healy, with the former lucky not to see a red, the ref settling for a yellow instead.
The Anvils settled on 20 when a combination of Sonny Barton and Ben Wilson set free Williams Peauroux but his shot was wide, a freekick from Dan Sullivan then found centreback Sam Packham, but his shot was also wide, nearest opening chance for the Anvils came on 35 when from a Sullivan corner a spot of pinball took place before being hacked away by the LIons, midfielder Mike Spence then joined the party with a chase down the right flank before finishing with a shot that had keeper James Binfield panicing the shot away.
Both sides at this stage were working hard with the Lions looking the more likely with their dangerous frontmen, whilst in comparison the Anvils lacked that final punch, with HT approaching the Lions broke the deadlock on 43 when Overton broke down the right, then passed inside to the waiting Simmonds to fire home. 0-1 Lions and HT.
For the second half the Anvils came out with purpose, with a Sullivan freekick being taken by Binfield. On 50 parity was restored when Ben Wilson out left was supplied with a perfect through ball and cut inside before firing across the face of Binfield into the far corner 1-1.
The Anvils were ontop at this point but the Lions came back on 67 a combination of fullback Daryl Wollers and Simmonds set up the approaching Overton to fire past the exposed Healy. 1-2 Lions
Healy was to be tested again thro midfielder James Thurgar but the young keeper was equal to the task, punching clear for a corner.
Anvils thro out had shown neat approach play, plus their ‘high line’ was working to good effect. Changes from the bench bought in a bit more huff and puff and the Lions had to resolutely defend their lead from the change in tactics up front from the Anvils. Unfortunately whilst the Anvils were in full attack mode a long clearance found a hole in the Anvils defence as the Lions rounded off a competent display with a third goal thro Lloyd Rowlatt to give it game set and match to the Lions by 3-1.
